Scalp micropigmentation is a straightforward process, and knowing what happens at each stage can make your first appointment feel much easier. At Toronto Scalp Micropigmentation Studio, your treatment is gradually built over up to three sessions so the colour, density, and overall result can be refined naturally. Here is what you can expect.
Before Your SMP Session
Before treatment, we review your hair loss, the areas being treated, your goals, skin tone, hair colour, and the type of result you want. For hairline work, we design the shape with you before any treatment begins. Arrive with a clean scalp and follow any preparation instructions provided before your appointment.
During Your SMP Session
Once treatment begins, thousands of tiny pigment impressions are carefully placed into the scalp to replicate the appearance of natural hair follicles.
For Men's Scalp Micropigmentation, this can create the appearance of a fuller shaved head and restored hairline.
For Hairline and Density SMP or Women's SMP, impressions are placed between existing hairs to reduce visible scalp and create the appearance of greater density.
Most clients find SMP very manageable. Sensitivity varies from person to person and between areas of the scalp, but the treatment is generally well tolerated. You can read more in our guide to whether scalp micropigmentation hurts.
Immediately After Your Session
Your SMP will usually look darker and more defined immediately after treatment than it will once healed. You may also notice some temporary redness or mild sensitivity. This is normal.
As the scalp settles, the pigment softens and the result begins to look more natural. SMP is intentionally built gradually, so you should not expect your final density after the first appointment.
The First Few Days
After your appointment, the main goal is to allow the scalp to heal without unnecessary irritation. You will temporarily avoid things such as heavy sweating, swimming, saunas, prolonged water exposure, direct sun, and rubbing or scratching the treated area. What Happens Next?
Each appointment builds on the previous one. Once the scalp has healed, we can see how the pigment has settled and add additional density, blending, and refinement at your next session.
