Scalp micropigmentation is designed to last for years. The pigment does not suddenly disappear. Instead, it gradually softens over time, and an occasional touch up can restore the colour and definition when you feel it is needed. SMP is a long term, low maintenance treatment rather than something you need to continually redo.
Why Does SMP Fade?
Some gradual fading is completely normal. Your skin naturally changes over time, and factors such as sun exposure, skin type, swimming, skincare products, and lifestyle can affect how quickly the pigment softens.
This gradual fading is actually preferable to pigment remaining permanently dark as your skin, hair, and appearance change over the years.
Will I Need a Touch Up?
Eventually, most clients will want a touch up to refresh their SMP. A touch up adds pigment back into areas that have softened and restores the density and definition of the original treatment. It is usually much simpler than starting SMP again from the beginning.

How Can You Help SMP Last Longer?
The biggest thing you can do is protect your scalp from excessive sun exposure. Using SPF on an exposed scalp helps protect both your skin and your SMP from premature fading.
